The Cosmic Odyssey put down with a gentle bump. Chief punched a few buttons on his console, “Just over a click from the target, nice flying skipper.”
Captain Dominick Sambrano smiled in spite of himself, “Thanks chief.” He leaned across his console, hit a nd button and spoke into the intercom, “OK, the ground seems solid, lets power down and get the Armadillo prepped.”
Our ex-marines Jamal and Kristi are loading up the armadillo with supplies ready for the trip across the sands to the Maxim.
“Hey Lacap, you have the ammo stored yet?” Jamal called to his companion.
Kristi poked her head out of the back of the armadillo and gave him a thumbs up. Jamal nodded in approval and turned as the connecting door from the hanger to the docking bay hissed open.
“Jack?” Jamal stared at he scientist in confusion. “What are you doing here?”
The ship’s scientist grinned and peered over his metal rimed glasses. “The skipper wants me to tag along and be available in case we find any of those colonists.”
“Makes sense.” The big marine grunted.
We’ll do a quick relationship roll for Jamal and Jack.
Roll1D66: 14, Competitive rival.
Let’s roll for an idea on what the rivalry is about.
Personnel and theme
Roll 1D66: 14 on the personality table, Alliance
Roll 1D66: 35 on the theme table, Fellowship
I think they both think they’d make a good captain should anything happen to Dominick Sambrano. Not that they will plot anything (yet) but will try and step up to show they are made of the right stuff.
Jamal raised an Automat Kaliningrad AK-4, a rugged bullpup assault rifle, “Ever used one of these Doc?”
Leftwich squinted at the weapon, “Nope, just have my handy laser sight pistol, even I can’t miss.” He grinned as he patted the Chulai Type 56 in the holster on his hip.
Jamal grunted, “Hope you don’t need anything bigger.”
Leftwich looked into the back of the Armadillo, “Is Kristi is there?”
Jamal nodded as he heaved up an ammo case and dumped it onto the back of the armored ATV
“Hey Kristi, need any help?” He called out.
“Ammo cases.” Came the muffled reply.
“That’s one of them.” Jamal grunted as he walked back to the stack of supplies.
“Right you are.” Jack Leftwich smiled and hopped up into the back of the Armadillo and began to huff, puff, grunt and curse as he tried mostly unsuccessfully to drag the ammo crate through the cramped confines of the ATV.
Let’s do a relationship roll for Jack and Kristi
Roll1D66: 33, Openly jealous.
Let’s roll for an idea on what the jealousy is about.
Personnel and theme
Roll 1D66: 14 on the personality table, Alliance
Roll 1D66: 13 on the theme table, Love
And a roll on the action table just to see if that helps.
Roll 1D66: 43 on the action table, Uphold
OK, so Kristi thinks Jack has a thing for Jamal and dislikes him for it.
Does she have a thing for Jamal? (A +2 on the roll since they have that secret together.)
Roll 2D6 (+2): 8, so 8 on the nose - Yes, but... The answer is ‘yes’, but there is a negative twist to the answer.
Yes, she is in love with Jamal for saving her life but doesn’t want that to get in the way of things and make her “soft” although she still resents Leftwich for his apparent interest in Jamal
“Just leave it there.” Kristi scowls at Leftwich as he looks up red faced and out of breath. “You’re just in the way.”
“Right you are.” Jack replied brightly and scuttled back out of the Armadillo, happy to have at least looked like he was trying to help.
Another ammo box thumped into the back of the Armadillo. “Lacap, last one.” Jamal called as Kristi appeared from the depths of the ATV.
“We getting stuck with that creep?” She motioned to Leftwich as he left the hanger bay. “You know he wants to fuck you.”
“Ha, so do you.” Jamal laughed
Kristi responded by giving him the middle finger as she disappeared back into the shadows of the Armadillo, blushing furiously.
“He’s medical, so he’s tagging along.” Jamal called after her and shrugged.
Captain Dominick Sambrano punched the comms button, “Rains, get up to the bridge.”
He shook his head as he glanced up at the Maxim still dominating the monitors on the bridge. “What are you not telling us?” He muttered to himself.
After ten minutes and no Rains, Sambrano went to hit the comms button again, “Screw this.”
A check to see if Dominick goes to find Rains himself or sends one of the crew. We’ll do a D6 roll, 5-6 the captain will search himself.
Roll 1D6: 6, He’s pissed and on a mission.
Does he have a pistol with him, he’s described as habitual so he will have a sidearm on a 3-6
Roll 1D6: 2, so he forgets to take a weapon.
” Chief, you have the helm, I’ll going to find this asshole.” The door hissed closed behind Sambrano as he stormed off the bridge.
Does the captain know where Rains is?
Yes / No roll - Roll 2D6: 1/5 = No
Is Rains to be found on board of the Odessey?
Yes / No roll - Roll 2D6: 1/4 = No
Has Rains left the ship?
Yes / No roll - Roll 2D6: 5/6 = Yes and…
Is Vergis still onboard?
Yes / No roll - Roll 2D6: 6/4= Yes
Is Vergis what she seems?
Yes / No roll - Roll 2D6: 6/1 = Yes…but
Sambrano strode down the corridor, hit the door button and stormed into the living quarters that Rains had been using.
Empty.
The intercom buzzed. “Dom, you need to get up here.” The chief sounded angry and confused.
“What is it?” Sambrano leaned into the comms speaker.
“It’s Rains and he’s got Doctor Novara.”
“He’s what!?”
There was a pause, “He’s got the doc.”
Dominick cursed, “Where is he?”
There was a pause.
“Chief, where are they?”
“Heading towards the Maxim.”
Nice! Great stuff!
