Cosmic Odyssey: A Hostile Solo campaign. Episode 10: Woof, woof , MF.
The landing team is still combing the Matrix, hunting for Rains who has the ship’s doctor Kory Novara as a hostage.
Dominick and the Chief have picked up a distress signal from somewhere beneath the Cosmic Odyssey.
On returning to the med bay, Chief discovers that a comatose Vergis has now disappeared.
Are the landing team getting closer to Rains? (Likely)
Roll 2D6: 1/1, No but… He is moving away from them, but he is considering dumping Dr Novara.
Ex colonial marines Cusolito and Lacap moved smoothly down the corridor, beams of light from the attachments on their rifles swinging back and forth as they covered the entrance to each room and corridor they passed. Some twenty feet behind them, Jack Leftwich, the ships science officer puffed slightly out of breath as he struggled to keep up.
“Cus!” Lacap hissed as she stopped and gestured up the corridor, her light illuminating the T-junction ahead of them.
The deep throated growl echoed down the hallway.
Jamal moved forward slowly, his light illuminating the creature that had appeared at the junction.
“It’s a dog” He called back quietly.
“Looks like one.” Lacap replied as she followed him down the hallway.
As if in response the dog took several steps forward, a growl coming from deep in its throat.
“Woof, woof, mother fucker.” Jamal squinted and put the laser sight onto the dog’s chest, his finger curled around the trigger.
With a speed that had to be seen to be believed, the dog bounded away and out of sight even as the bullet clipped the floor where it had been standing a split second before.
“Goddamn, how’d it move that quick?” The burly man grunted.
“What do you mean she’s gone?” Sambrano barked into the comms speaker.
“I mean she’s gone old hoss. Gone, disappeared, vamoosed.” The Chief’s drawl crackled back at him.
Let’s see if Vergis is making for the Maxim. (Likely)
Roll 2D6: 4/1, yes, but… she tries to sabotage the Odessey’s engines.
Roll 2D6: 8, success.
Is there an explosion? (50/50)
Roll 2D6: 1/6, No and… she has disabled another system.
Roll D66: 51: Plasma coil has been sabotaged as well.
“You need to find her Chief.” Sambrano scowled at the main monitor, the Maxim sat there as if taunting him.
“I’m on it hoss, just wanted you to know.”
“Shit!” Dominick Sambrano slammed his fist onto the console. He punched the comms button again,
“Zero-one, this is Odyssey, come in.”
After several seconds, the comms crackled, “This is zero-one, go ahead.”
“Have you found her yet Jamal?”
“No sir, we saw a dog and that’s about it.”
“A dog?”
“Yeah, of all the things.”
Sambrano squeezed his eyes shut and pinched the bridge of his nose, he let out a long breath.
“OK, keep me posted. Odyssey out.”
“Skipper’s getting pissed huh?” Kristi asked as Jamal joined her and Leftwich at the passageway junction.
Jamal unslung his rifle and glanced down the passageway leading off to their right.
“He’s worried about the doc.”
Kristi Lacap scowled, “We all are but we’re the ones on this fucking boat not knowing what’s around the corner.”
“The skipper has done alright by us, don’t forget that.” Jamal replied quietly.
Kristi shook her head, “I know, I know.”
The gunshots echoed down the passageway.
“Left.” Jamal shouted as he moved, rifle up and sighted, Lacap moved to the other way several feet behind him and shadowed his movements. The big man paused and nodded to the hallway to their right. Lacap moved slowly forward until she was at the corner. In one smooth movement she slid around the corner, rifle leading. Jamal appeared around the opposite corner and covered the hallway and she slowly advanced.
Reaching another junction, Lacap peeked around the corner and jerked back. She gestured down the hallway and Jamal quickly moved next to her at the corner.
He poked his head around the corner, took in the scene and ducked back.
“Shit.” He said as he punched his comms.
“Odyssey, this is zero-one.”
The comms crackled into life, “Go ahead Jamal.”
The big ex-marine took a deep breath, “We found the doc.”
