The landing team have finally located Dr Kory Novara in the depths of The Maxim. Meanwhile back on board the Odyssey, the corporate “asset” Vergis has disappeared from the sick bay. The ships engineer Jerry Vasconcelos, also known as Chief, is scouring the ship trying to find her.
Has Vergis got off the ship and found the escaped colonists hiding in the caves near the Odyssey? (Likely)
Roll 2D6: 3/1, yes but something is wrong
We’ll roll on the inspiration tables to get an idea what’s going on.
Roll 1D66 on the ship table: 56, mainframe.
Roll 1 D66 on the personnel table: 35, expendable.
So, the mainframe on the Maxim malfunctioned and didn’t allow the colonists the ability to take off and escape the planet once the xenomorph was loose in the ship. The survivors made a run for the caves outside and are hiding out until Vergis goes to find them.
“Doc? Are you ok?” Jamal slowly advanced towards the crumpled form lying in a pool of blood in the hallway.
No response.
“Leftwich get over there and check on the doc.” Lacap gave the ships scientist a not so gentle shove that sent him stumbling forward.
“What’s that next to her?” Jack Leftwich pointed at the bloody mound of fur less than two feet from where Dr. Novara lay.
Jamal cautiously moved closer, “Looks like that dog we saw. Guess Rains didn’t like it and put a couple of rounds into it by the look of things.”
Jack Leftwich gets to the Doc and tries to stabilize her.
Roll 2D6 (+3 for medical skill): 6 (+3), 9 makes it a success.
Leftwich goes to work and within a minute or two, the doc groans and tries to sit up.
“Stay down Kory, we’re going to get you back to the ship.” Leftwich gently eases the doc back to the floor.
“Odessey, this is zero-one. We have the doc and we’re bringing her back.
Sambrano’s relieved voice crackled over their comms, “Great news and great job guys. We’ll have the sick bay ready.”
Do the landing team run into any issues getting the doc back to the Odessey? (Unlikely)
Roll 2D6: 4/5, No.
The landing team gets the doc secured to a makeshift stretcher and back to the Armadillo which allows Leftwich to get Dr. Novara sedated and on an IV.
They don’t run into any more aggressive wildlife on their quick trip back to the ship.
An hour later Sambrano stood in the doorway of the sick bay watching Jeff Leftwich work on getting the doc stabilized.
“How is she?” He asked quietly.
Let’s have Leftwich roll to make sure Novara is stabilized.
Roll 2D6 +3 for med skill: 4(+3) 7, failure.
Leftwich wiped the sweat from his brow as he glanced up at the ship’s captain. “I think she’s…”
An urgent beeping interrupted his reply as red lights began flashing.
“What’s happening?” Sambrano demanded.
“Shut up and let me work.” The ships scientist snapped as he rushed around the bed checking Novara’s condition.
We’ll roll again against Leftwich’s medical skill, if he fails the doc could die.
Roll 2D6 (+3): 2 +3 (yikes double 1’s), a failure.
The alarms continued, the lights flashed, and another alarm began buzzing.
“Can I do anything?” Sambrano asked.
“Just get out of the way.” Leftwich hissed as he ducked past him and adjusted a monitor and checked Novara’s heartrate.
Another medical check.
Roll 2D6+3: 6(+3), 9. A success!
After working feverishly for several minutes, the alarms stopped one by one, and the flashing red light eventually stopped as well. Leftwich slumped down onto a stool next to the bed and took a deep shuddering breath. He glanced over at Kory who at last seemed to be breathing normally.
“She ok?”
Leftwich jumped at the voice. Sambrano stood in the doorway of the med bay.
“Yes, she’s stable.” He replied, the tiredness evident in his voice.
Sambrano nodded, “Good job, let me know if her condition changes, I’ll be up on the bridge.” He turned and left before Leftwich could reply.
Does Sanford Rains manage to get the Maxim’s mainframe computer up and running?
Roll 2D6: -1 (+1 for jack of all trades skill, -2 for difficulty), 3-1, 2. A failure.
So, the Maxim remains on the surface.
Does Vergis want to get the colonists back on board the Maxim? (Likely)
Roll 2D6: 4/3, Yes.
Will the colonists follow her back to the ship. (Unlikely)
Roll 2D6: 3/4, No
So, our Vergis is at an impasse. The terrified colonists are refusing to go back to the Maxim.
Jamal looked puzzled, “So you’re saying the signal is coming from under the ship?”
Chief leaned back in his chair, “I’m thinking there’s some kind of cave or cave system down there.”
Kristi Lacap looked at Sambrano, “What do you want us to do skipper?”
Still lovin’ this!
